What do you think about wanting to be popular?

I don't think that wanting to be popular is a necessarily bad thing, I get the feeling that it's pretty natural, most of us want to be liked. The dangers though are what we might do to attain it and the misconceptions we might have and might pursue.

From an eating disorders perspective (where self-esteem issues are often a big part) we might mistakenly feel that if we're thinner people will like us or maybe we think that people like us more when we've had a bit to drink etc. and of course we can head off down that slipper slope to self-destruction.

I guess that true self-esteem is about loving overselves and being comfortable with who we are. It feel ok to want to be popular but definately not ok to harm our own wellbeing in the pursuit of misguided and unobtainable ideals.

I find popularity unnecessary and stupid.

Popularity, not so much for me. Tis too much work keeping up wiith everyone else, and ...something else...

i don't think its that important as long as you have a few friends

I think that truly being popular means that you have friends and that you and them are close. Its not all about cloths and all that. Anyone who has friends or even just a friend is popular if only with those people and everyone has at least one friend.

Sadly the last part I disagree with....Until only recently I actually had 0 friends.

I'm your friend. So that means you have a friend.

Haha, Thats why I said up until recently. NOW I have friends^^ But thank you ever so kindly.

How about this. Everyone is able to have friends no matter what they are like. And if they find friends they can be popular.

If people like you before they even had the chance to talk to you. Then they must have chosen to do that of other reasons than strong friendship.

Oshi, this could hurt some people feelings though if not careful, I just didn't want anything bad to happen.

Thats a good thing to do Shu but I don't think it will hurt anyones feelings. I don't think any of us care how popular some one is.
