Clan History: The Ketsueki Clan is one of the oldest ninja clans of the Hidden Mist Village. It is most well known for its excellent swordsmen and swordsmiths. The clan played a critical role in the many civil wars that plagued the Bloody Mist period of Kiri's history as well as the destruction of the Kaguya Clan. Due to the prejudice against advanced bloodlines, the Ketsueki have remained highly secretive about their Blood Release jutsu, carefully playing them off as Hiden Jutsu.
Sword Arts
There are three main styles taught to all members of the Ketsueki family. Ketsueki-Style Kenjutsu is the most basic and crucial of the three arts. The training begins as early as the practitioner is capable of wielding a shinai. Training is rigerous and involves months to years of training with shinai and body armor, before a swordsman is allowed to take up a bokken. It is at this point that a practitioner may branch out into one of the other two styles, or develop his own (such as done by Iori Ketsueki). Kenjutsu training progresses into bokken kata, before finally beginning cutting practice with a live blade. Once a swordsman has reached his first level of mastery (first dan), he begins training with the Blood Release: Sword of Blood. The Blood Sword is obviously much lighter, but much stronger than a simple katana.
The second school is the Ketsueki-Style Daisho Kenjutsu. Daisho, referring to wearing both a katana and wakizashi, emphasizes this school's focus on fighting with two swords at once. Most beginners fight with tanto and wakizashi at first, graduating to katana and wakizashi after many years. Some of the most skilled practitioners, such as Hideyoshi Ketsueki, take this a step further and wield two katana of roughly equal length. Due to the great peace brought on after the last Ninja World War and the last of the Water Country's civil wars, this style has fallen in popularity. Hideyoshi is the undisputed grandmaster of this style and one of the most skilled swordsmen in all of Kirigakure.
The third and final school is Ketsueki-Style Iaijutsu. While this school never maintained the greatest popularity, the number of practitioners of Ketsueki-Style Iaijutsu has remained the most constant over the years. Unlike the other schools which focus on strengthening a user's mastery of the Blood Sword techniques of the family, this school focuses on perfecting the use of an everyday katana. Of course, an everyday katana to a Ketsueki is one of the most finely crafted blades the in the Ninja World. The current grandmaster is Hideyoshi's youngest brother, though Mori's skill has grown such that the title will soon be in dispute.
Swordsmithing
Within Kirigakure, and most other parts of the Ninja World, the quality and expertise of Ketsueki swords is unsurpassed. These swords however are almost never available on the open market. Ketsueki swords are manufactured for the one individual who commissioned the work in forges deep within the Ketsueki manor. The price for one of these swords is close to astronomical. On rare occassions these swords are given by members of the family to those outside the family as a gift of deep reverence and esteem. A recipient of such a sword is held in the highest regard, as it implies honorary membership in the family. The most recent gift was given by Mori Ketsueki to Kirabi after the former's training was complete.
All of this however pales in comparison to the work of Masamune Ketsueki, universally accepted as the greatest swordsmith in history. His gentle demeanor and hatred of violence led him to break all ties with the family and he later changed his name to Masamune Gorō. Very few of his swords exist as he took almost all of his work with him, before burning down his forge. All of his records and methods have been lost. Mori has recently begun a secret attempt to recreate Masamune's techniques. He has devoted a great deal of his personal resources and those of the family to unlocking those secrets. It is known that Hideyoshi and Mori both possess Masamune katana.

History/RP Sample:History/Background Story: Mori Ketsueki was born just after the "Bloody Mist" era of Kirigakure. He was a remarkably average student in the Ninja Academy, but managed to graduate at the age of 8. Instead of being placed in a team with other genin, Mori stayed at home and focused on training in the Iaijutsu, Kenjutsu and Blood Release techniques of the family. At age 10 he left with three of the family's bodyguards to find teachers that would push him to a new level beyond his incredibly average abilities.
Search for the Sannin
Knowledge of the Great Shinobi World Wars was carefully documented and Mori was intimately knowledgeable about the legendary Sannin of Konoha. He was determined to track them down and to at least learn one jutsu from each of them. He first met Jiraiya on Public Bathing Day at the hot springs in Konoha. The latter of course was observing his favorite pasttime of doing "research." Though reluctant at first, Jiraiya agreed to train Mori in summoning jutsu. Jiraiya demonstrated by summoning Shima and Fukasaku. Perhaps because of this, or perhaps it was a fluke, but Mori managed to summon the Great Toad Sage himself. The wise, yet somewhat senile Toad, believing that the boy had traveled all the way to Myobokuzan, gave one of his famous prophecies: "You shall become a great, perverted swordsman, and one day a Great Toad Sage." Thus began his studies in Senjutsu.
Through Jiraiya, Mori was able to track down Tsunade. Like Jiraiya, she was enjoying her favorite pasttime of losing money gambling. A well-timed Substitution Jutsu got him out of trouble, when in cat form he began to nuzzle the super-strong Sannin. Though she later beat him up for his Jiraiya-esque perversion, she was impressed by his timing and agreed to help him with his chakra control. This special training, along with his later experimentation with Blood Release: Blood Healing and the Eight Gates is what enables him to maintain Sage Mode for such long periods of time.
Little is known about Mori's interactions with Orochimaru. Mori himself refuses to speak of the time, but his jealous secrecy over his Void Release techniques and his determined use of the Forbidden Blood Releases shows some lasting impression. It is during this time that he learns to summon the Rashomon Gates and meets Anko Mitarashi. He supposedly was given a curse seal like Orochimaru's other students, but it never manifested. The depth of his relationship with Anko is largely speculation as, when they are together they act like best friends and not lovers. However both of them often flirt and talk dirty to each other, which seems they have little qualms about talking about what they do together in their "free time." Since they live very far apart, they don't see each other regularly or often.
Kakashi and Killer Bee
He and Anko both left Orochimaru around the same time and made their way to the Hidden Leaf Village. There Mori met and became close friends with Kakashi Hatake. It all started ironically enough at a book signing given by Jiraiya at the adult bookstore. From their mutual interest in the Icha Icha series, the two spent quite a bit of time training together. While Mori refers to their relationship as a student-master one, Kakashi prefers calling themselves training partners. Kakashi is responsible for passing on a number of jutsu he had copied with his Sharingan as well as training Mori in the Eight Gates and Chidori. The latter was at Mori's insistence at wanting an offensive Lightning Release in his arsenal, despite his lack of Sharingan.
After he left Konoha, Mori traveled to the other countries of the world in search of another teacher. He had now spent two years traveling and training. Into his third year away from home, Mori met the eight-tailed Jinchūriki named Killer Bee. The swordsmanship displayed by the older man astounding Mori and he pleaded to be taught by Kirabi. For several months he was forced to learn how to rap in order to get in his teacher's good graces. He still cannot rhyme that well.
Promotion
Upon returning to Kiri after three years absense, Mori took the Chunin Exam and passed spectacularly. Only one year later he would be promoted to Special Jonin and undertook training his younger brother Iori, forming Team Mori. In spite of his unorthodox and lazy training methods, Team Mori would pass its first Chunin Exam. Shortly thereafter, Mori left the team, entrusting leadership to Iori. It is at this time Mori earns his nickname "the Lazy Cat." Fortunately, this is also the time when Mori is sent along with a number of ANBU members to track down an S-Rank Missing Nin, formerly a member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen. It is that swordsman who was responsible for giving Mori his second nickname. After lazing about for most of the mission, his allies more than a little bitter, Mori saw that he truly was needed for this mission and entered Sage Mode. The fury and speed of his attack caught everyone off guard. When he turned to leave after dealing a mortal wound, the criminal looked at the Kanji on his back and with his dying words wheezed, "that... is a cat from Hell."
Shortly after this incident he achieves the promotion to full-fledged Jonin and is allowed to keep his ANBU mask, that of a cat. He is not an official ANBU agent, as he is far too lazy to keep up with the demanding work load, but he retains close contacts to the organization.
Hidden Ark: Jealous of the power and capabilities of the Uchiha bloodline, Mori entered into an extensive rivalry with Ruki Uchiha. Both jealous of the power the other could inherit, their fighting continued throughout Ruki's Akatsuki years. Just prior to Itachi's death from illness, Mori and Ruki met one final time to settle their differences. Like every time before, their battle ended in a draw, however Ruki suddenly collapsed. Mori helped Ruki back to his base at the time and the pair resolved their feud, realizing how foolish they had been to waste so much of their lives in bitter rivalry. At the conclusion of their meeting Mori performed the forbidden jutsu Blood Release: Forbidden Blood Vampire and Blood Release: Forbidden Blood Gift to grant them both the bloodlines they so desperately had fought for.
Despite the power and effectiveness of the Forbidden Blood Vampire, Mori does not have nearly the control over the Sharingan as Ruki. As such he rarely uses it in battle, instead utilizing the less strenuous Sharingan. In much the same way as Itachi gave Sasuke Amaterasu, Ruki placed the Tsukuyomi in Mori's Sharingan. As opposed to the full power of the Genjutsu, Mori uses a slightly weaker version. Visually this is identical to the full Tsukuyomi, however it merely distorts time within a certain radius, making everyone except for Mori to be moving in slow motion. As of yet, he has not manifested any unique powers, like Sasuke's mind reading genjutsu or Kakashi's Kamui.
