There was a slight rattling noise as the gently breeze ruffled the brittle branches of the few sparse bushes that were dotted around the harsh unforgiving landscape that Earth Country was so famous for. Eiichiro lazily lifted an arm, letting the reins fall to one side and pulled the brim of his bamboo hat down so that the shadow covered his eyes ; hoping to increase the meager flicker of shade it provided. It was the hottest part of the day and the sun was high in the sky, leaving no patch of earth untouched by it's blistering heat ... including Eiichiro, he had swapped his usual flak jacket for a light robe that covered only the bottom half of the body. Small bloodsucking insects were begining to gather around the horses head, warded off by only the odd flick of the ear or toss of the head. The horse was a beautiful chestnut bay with a white stripe tapering down the forehead to the tip of the nose, which was blistered and dry from the heat. Both horse and its rider were sweating heavily in the scorching midday sun and were both trying there hardest to ignore it. A bead of sweat slowly trickled down Eiichiro's chest leaving a glistening trail behind it, it felt cold against his sunburnt skin, he hadn't had a drink for hours and longed to feel the cool flow of water on his parched lips ; but he was still hours away from Hidden Rock ... or any city and the pathetic amount of salty water, sloshing about in the bottom of his canteen wouldn't last him unless he saved it.

A heavy flick of the tail dispersed the thickening cloud of annoying biting insects that had been persistenly trailing them for the past half-hour waiting for a chance to feed. Eiichiro slowly flicked the gathering drops of cold sweat of his baked chest, thankful his eyes were shadowed from the suns relentless onslaught, there was no shade for miles and miles around and there was a continous heat haze, blurring the vision of anyone stupid enough to brave the desert heat. Numerous crickets and grasshoppers chirped monotonous shrill songs from the scrub, but apart from insects, a horse and its rider there was no other visible life. Eiichiro blinked a few times add some moisture back into his dryed out eyes, nothing moved against the sparse pathetic shrubbery and grew in between the cracks of the dusty, red-brown rocks ... once or twice there was a slight movement as the crickets flicked out their wings and hopped to another wrinkled, skinny twig, but other then that there was just the desolaye landscape. Hajime sneezed and tossed his head in the way that all irritated horses do, his maned flicking upwards and breaking through the mob of insects hovering round his head. Some of them had got under Eiichiro's hat and had decided to pester him instead, flitting round his neck and eyes, darting in every so often to snatch a quick feed.

Something was slowly lolloping along through the ever blurry heat haze, all four legs only glancing the ground to avoid the scorching dirt that the sun had sent all day warming up. Eiichiro raised his head to the right side, so to other a better view of the figures moving through the heat. They had thin, sandy brown, almost golden pelts that seemed to to merge with the very earth that they ran on top on. At first glance Eiichiro thought they some kind of wild goat or sheep, but a closer and deeper inspection revealed them to be wild dogs, or maybe something like a hyena. They moved with the co-ordination and pace that only pack animals can attain, circling round each other like they were connected by and invisible rope, they moved fast and soon disappeared in the desert landscape like silent ghosts.

The hottest part of the day was coming to an gruellingly slow end, the sun had moved very slighty in the sky and, unfortunately was still beating down without the smallest hint of mercy. Eiichiro slumped fowards on the horse and with an effort leaned to the side to unclasp his bottle from the sea of packs and supplies tied to either side of the horses shrinking stomack. Groaning and complaining he half-heartedly slipped of the horse and went to search for his bottle properly. His hand disappeared into a quicksand of rucksacks and bundles of clothes that had been used to hold everything he needed.

After almost ten minutes of intently rummaging around in the uncoutable bags and packs that had been slung over the horse Eiichiro managed to find the bottle filled with the precious water. Remounting the horse he flicked the cap of the bottle and held, upside down above his dry, parched mouth. A pathetic dribble of water hazardly trickled out and ran down his throat, doing next to nothing to quench his desperate thirst. Eiichiro swore loudly, making the horse buck slightly to the left, he angrily thrust the bottle back in the direction of the pack it had come out of, and missed letting the fragile plastic bounced of the ground twice and come to a stop under a tapering desert bush. Hajime tossed his head jerkily and sneezed before being force on again by a harder than intended heel in the stomach, Hajime whinnied in protest and back up slightly. Only by something along the lines of "sorry" from Eiichiro would he move on again. Lazily walking through the red dust of the desert. They continued on doggedly through the heat, trying to keep a steady pace as they ploughed on, there was still nothing on the horizon, it was as desolate and deserted as when they had left the last town's and cities behind to cross the desert towards the capital. Both of them where exuashted tired, straved and desperatly thirsty. Now and then the vegitation would thicken up and then spread out again. They pasted a few towering cactuses and paused for a short while to get some energy back in the thin strip of shade they provided. Eiichiro looked up and shielded his eye from the sun with his left hand. There was a faint shape of buildings on the horizon, the capital Hidden Stone. Eiichiro hoisted himself excietedly and coaxed into and all out gallop, Hajime reared up dramatically and sped off, his hooves kicking up dust and twigs as they swung back and forth like pendulums beneath him.
